Choreographic Research
November 21 & 22, 2026
12–5 PM | Montclair State University
Over the course of two days, choreographer Beth Graczyk will conduct creative research with up to seven dancers in the development of a new work, tentatively titled Holobiont, the eighth piece in her ongoing series Desire Motor.
Holobiont explores the body as an interconnected ecosystem, questioning ideas of individuality, agency, and control through movement, improvisation, and collaborative experimentation.
This research process will offer participants an opportunity to engage in collaborative choreographic exploration, experimentation, and the early development of a new performance work. Dancers should feel comfortable with different modalities of movement and improvisation based research.
Beth is delighted to return to Montclair State University, where she recently earned her MFA in Dance, and to collaborate with Montclair alumni in this new phase of her artistic research.
Informal Showing: An informal showing of the research will take place on Sunday, November 22, at 4:30 PM.
Compensation: Participants will receive a $150 stipend for the two days and will be credited for their contributions to the development of the work.
